Overflowing dumpsters and delayed garbage removal
Summary
The facility failed to ensure garbage was removed in a timely manner. During interviews, an RN said the garbage disposal company did not come to empty the dumpsters for a week and the two dumpsters in the parking lot were overflowing with garbage, and during that time there was an abundance of garbage left in the facility's soiled utility rooms. A housekeeper said that the weekend prior to Memorial Day and for a few days after, the dumpsters were overflowing with garbage, garbage was being kept in the soiled utility rooms until the dumpsters could be emptied, and there was increased odor in the facility during that time. The housekeeping supervisor said that when she returned after being off for several days, the dumpsters in the parking lot were full and overflowing. She instructed staff to double bag all garbage, place it in bins in hallway 6's soiled utility room, cover the bins with blankets, and spray them with odor-ban until the dumpsters were emptied. The garbage disposal company stated the facility's pickups were interrupted due to non-payment, and the COO said she was notified of the interruption, contacted the company, and learned the check had not been received. Facility records showed the dumpsters were emptied on 5/20/26 and then again on 5/29/26, with a courtesy pickup on 5/27/26. The facility's resident list documented 60 residents.
