Washer Equipment Not Maintained Free of Buildup

Kingsburg CenterKingsburg, California Survey Completed on 06-05-2026

Summary

Keep all essential equipment working safely was not maintained when two washers in the laundry room were observed with thick white and green hard buildup around the pipes on top of each machine. During a concurrent observation and interview, the Laundry Person stated she did not remember cleaning the tops of the washers and was not sure who was responsible for that task, and said she only cleaned the lint trap on the dryers and wiped down the front lid of the washers. The Housekeeping/Laundry Account Manager also observed the buildup and stated laundry staff only wiped down the front of the washers and not the top, and was not sure whether cleaning the tops was part of the contract. The Director of Maintenance identified the white buildup as calcium deposits and stated it could potentially affect the machine making it work harder and could cause premature breakdown, but he was not sure who was responsible to maintain and clean the machines. The Administrator stated there was no clear writing in the contract about whose responsibility it was to maintain the equipment, and the facility documents reviewed stated routine maintenance should maximize operating efficiency, end-of-day cleaning should include exposed surfaces, and the laundry area and equipment should be routinely cleaned and disinfected.
