Summary

The facility failed to complete a comprehensive nutritional assessment within 14 calendar days of admission for one resident. Upon review, it was found that the nutritional assessment was performed 17 days after the resident's admission, exceeding the regulatory timeframe. The resident, who had a diagnosis of protein-calorie malnutrition, was observed eating lunch and expressed dissatisfaction with her current diet and concern about weight loss. The resident was mentally capable of understanding her care and dietary needs. Interviews with facility staff confirmed that the nutritional assessment was delayed and should have been completed upon admission to determine the resident's nutritional status and initiate appropriate interventions. The Registered Nurse and Registered Dietician both acknowledged the delay and stated that the assessment should have been completed within the required timeframe. Facility policy also required a timely nutritional assessment upon admission, which was not followed in this instance.
