Unsanitary Dining Conditions Due to Urinal Left Near Meal Tray
D
F0880 F880: Provide and implement an infection prevention and control program.
Short Summary

A resident with osteomyelitis and DM, who was cognitively intact, had a lunch tray delivered while two urinals, including one containing urine, remained on the overbed table. Staff removed cups and set up the meal but did not remove the urinals before uncovering the tray and leaving the room. The resident then used the call light and told an RN he would not eat with the urinal present, and the RN removed it. The DON later explained that dietary staff had recently begun delivering trays and were only to place them in rooms, while CNAs were expected to check rooms beforehand to ensure urinals were removed, and that her expectation was that urinals be removed or reported before trays were placed. The resident later stated that the situation made him feel bad and that the urinal should have been removed.
