Improperly Covered Trash Cans and Dumpster

View Park Convalescent CenterLos Angeles, California Survey Completed on 07-02-2026

Summary

Improper garbage and refuse disposal was observed in the dietary area when two of two grey trash cans were not completely covered while not actively in use during lunch service. During multiple observations, the grey trash can by the preparation area was seen uncovered while not being used, and the Dietary Supervisor stated the trash can had to remain closed because it attracts bugs and pests and helps prevent cross contamination. A concurrent observation with the Dietary Supervisor outside the facility found one dumpster lid was not tight fitting and had space in between the closure, with flies flying around it. The Dietary Supervisor stated the dumpster was loose and needed to be closed properly to avoid attracting pests that could possibly spread diseases to residents. The facility policy stated trash bins should be covered at all times and outside garbage bins should be kept closed at all times, and the Food Code required covered receptacles inside when not in continuous use and tight-fitting lids for outside waste containers.
