Outdated Menus Not Posted for Resident Review

Complete Care At Laplata LlcLaplata, Maryland Survey Completed on 06-10-2026

Summary

The facility failed to ensure residents were informed of meal selections by posting current menus for resident review prior to meal service. During an interview, Resident #8 stated current menus had not been posted for at least one week and residents were unable to review meals in advance. Resident #8 reported requesting a salad for lunch because the resident did not know what meal was being served, and then learned at lunch that a different meal option was available that the resident would have chosen if it had been known beforehand. On observation, three menus posted outside the nurses' station on the 200 unit were dated 6/1/26, 6/2/26, and 6/3/26, even though the survey occurred later in the month. The Food Service Director stated the facility had recently transitioned to a new food service contractor and meal-tracking system and had difficulty printing menus, which resulted in current menus not being posted. The FSD also stated the lunch meal for the day had been changed because food items were unavailable and that menu announcements over the intercom were not made that day because she was on a telephone call with an outside food vendor. During the tour, the FSD acknowledged the posted menus were outdated and should have been removed.
