Failure to Maintain Resident Dignity and Respect

Bria Of BellevilleBelleville, Illinois Survey Completed on 06-11-2026

Summary

The facility failed to provide a dignified existence for 2 of 5 residents reviewed for resident rights. One cognitively intact resident stated that CNAs were on their phones while providing care, stood outside her room talking on the phone instead of coming in to assist her, and were sometimes disrespectful or cursing on the phone while in the building. She also reported that some staff told residents their breath was "funky," that they stink, and used profanity toward them, and that staff members gossiped about each other outside her room. She said some staff told her they were tired because of personal issues, which she did not want to hear, and that some CNAs did not like her because she reported concerns to the Administrator. A second cognitively intact resident stated that some staff were rude and disrespectful, though not abusive. Resident Council Minutes documented repeated concerns from residents about CNAs not answering call lights, talking on phones, cursing, agency staff not helping to pass trays, CNAs sleeping on night shift, residents being gotten up late, staff leaving the halls, and staff being on phones while taking care of residents. The Administrator stated she would expect resident rights to be followed. The facility's Resident Rights Policy states that the objective is to create an individualized, home-like environment to maintain dignity and well-being in accordance with residents' needs and preferences.
