Inadequate Hot Water Temperatures in Resident Rooms

Geneva Center For Rehabilitation And NursingGeneva, Ohio Survey Completed on 04-16-2026

Summary

The facility failed to maintain adequate hot water temperatures in resident rooms, affecting four of 12 residents reviewed for hot water temperatures. During an interview, one resident complained that the hot water in the sink was not warm enough for showering and was uncomfortable, and the sink temperature was observed at 88 degrees Fahrenheit. The Director of Maintenance was notified and stated he increased the hot water tank temperature level. The next morning, the same resident’s hot water temperature was observed at 92 degrees Fahrenheit, and later that day additional room checks showed temperatures of 101.4 degrees Fahrenheit for one resident, 93 degrees Fahrenheit for another resident, 93.4 degrees Fahrenheit for another resident, and 90.6 degrees Fahrenheit for the first resident. The Administrator reported interviewing 12 residents about hot water temperatures, and two residents stated they were not satisfied with the hot water in their rooms. Those two residents agreed to use the 100-hall shower room until the hot water issue was resolved. Another resident later complained that her hot water had been on the cooler side for about one month and said she preferred a hot shower; she described the shower water as medium-warm to cold and uncomfortable. Review of the facility’s undated water temperature audit form showed a blank form used to test and log water temperatures between 105 degrees Fahrenheit and 120 degrees Fahrenheit, and the Administrator verified there had been no previous water temperature audits. The facility policy stated maintenance staff were responsible for periodic tap water temperature checks and recording the temperatures in a safety log.
