The roommate stated he was annoyed by the resident banging the grabber on the counter and tried to take it away, denying that he intended to hurt the resident. The administrator also described the event as a commotion in the room involving both residents holding the grabber and pushing and pulling it back and forth, with the resident’s hand showing a small reddish area and an abrasion documented in the skin/wound evaluation. The facility’s abuse policy defined physical abuse as infliction of injury other than by accidental means and included examples such as hitting, grabbing, and roughly handling.
