Delayed Call Light Response

Frederick Crossing Of JourneyFrederick, Maryland Survey Completed on 10-16-2025

Summary

The facility failed to treat residents with dignity and respect by not responding to call lights in a timely manner. Resident #2 reported waiting a long time for call lights to be answered and stated that he/she would yell for staff to come to the room, describing waits of an hour or longer and saying this was why he/she called the nurses' station and/or front desk for help. Resident #4 reported that staff did not answer call lights 60% of the time and that waits could be up to an hour. Resident #4 also stated that a colostomy bag busted at 6:45 AM and was not changed until 8:00 AM. Resident #5 reported waiting up to an hour at times for call lights to be answered and stated that he/she had stopped turning on the call light during mealtimes and shift changes because staff were not available at those times. Resident Council meeting minutes showed repeated complaints about call lights not being answered in a timely manner in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, and October 2025. The DON acknowledged awareness of the concern and stated that management staff conducted audits of call light response times, but also reported ongoing issues on shifts without management assigned.
