Summary

Three cartons of Med Pass 2.0 fortified nutritional shake were found expired in the medication room of nursing station two during an observation and interview with a licensed nurse. Two of the cartons had expired on one date, and the third on another, as confirmed by the nurse present. The nurse acknowledged the expired status of the items and stated that it is the responsibility of all medication nurses to check for expired products. Review of the facility's medication storage policy indicated that outdated medications are to be immediately removed from stock and disposed of according to established procedures. The expired nutritional shakes were not removed as required, resulting in a failure to appropriately label and store drugs and biologicals in accordance with professional standards.
