Summary
A deficiency was identified when a certified nursing assistant (CNA) was observed standing while feeding a resident during lunch, rather than sitting as appropriate to maintain the resident's dignity. The resident involved had a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease, was dependent on staff for eating and other activities of daily living, and was assessed as having severe cognitive impairment with both long and short term memory problems. During an interview, the CNA stated she could not recall whether she should have been sitting or standing while feeding the resident, but acknowledged that sitting was the correct approach. Facility leadership confirmed that feeding a resident while standing is not appropriate.
