Summary

The facility failed to ensure the accurate provision of medication for one resident when the resident did not receive Glutose 15 gel, a medication prescribed to treat hypoglycemia, as ordered by the physician. The resident had physician's orders to check blood sugar twice daily and to administer Glutose 15 by mouth if blood sugar was less than 80. Medical records showed that on three separate occasions, the resident's blood sugar was below 80, but the medication was not administered as required. The Director of Nursing confirmed during interview and record review that the physician's orders were not followed on these dates. Facility policy required medications to be administered in accordance with orders.
