The facility's policy, updated in October 2021, required that residents and their representatives be given a Notice of Transfer for any transfer to acute care or an emergency department, including a bed hold notification. This notice should be provided prior to or within 48 hours of the transfer and documented in the resident's medical record. However, the review of the resident's electronic and paper medical records showed no evidence that this process was followed, resulting in a deficiency in the facility's compliance with its own transfer and bed hold notification procedures.
