Dishwasher Temperatures Did Not Meet Required Standards

Rock Hill Health & RehabilitationBellingham, Washington Survey Completed on 06-01-2026

Summary

The facility failed to ensure that the dishwashing temperatures in the kitchen met required standards. The Washington State Retail Food code stated that high temperature dishwashers required a wash cycle temperature of 150 degrees Fahrenheit and a rinse cycle temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. During observation and interview, the Dietary Manager stated the facility used a leased high temperature dishwasher. A High Temperature Dish Machine Log for May 2026 showed three temperature entries per day and documented 18 instances where the wash cycle did not reach the minimum 150 degrees Fahrenheit and 3 instances where the rinse cycle did not reach the minimum 180 degrees Fahrenheit. The Dietary Manager stated the dishwasher company reported the machine was functioning properly and reaching temperature, and that staff had been told the dial was reading about 5 degrees off and to record exactly what the dial showed. The Dietary Manager also stated they were not concerned because the company said the machine was functioning. The provided service note showed the most recent service was in March 2026 and did not include notes about low temperature readings at the facility or inaccurate dial readings. The Administrator stated they were not aware of the low dishwasher temperatures and said that if the dial was not reading correctly and temperatures were not reaching the minimums, the company needed to be contacted for repairs.

The maintenance supervisor said he was responsible for cleaning and maintaining the machine, changed the filter monthly, visually inspected it weekly, and deep cleaned it in July, but may have missed part of the guard.
