Summary

The facility failed to ensure that the Director of Nursing (DON) maintained an active Registered Nurse (RN) license while working in the capacity of full-time DON. During an onsite visit, it was discovered that the DON's RN license had expired, and she had continued to work in the facility since the expiration date. The Director of Staff Development (DSD) stated that she did not routinely check the DON's file, as it was kept in the Administrator's office, and was unaware that the license had expired. The DON acknowledged not following up with the Licensing Board for verification of her license status. The Administrator also stated he was not aware of the expired license and indicated that the DSD was typically responsible for verifying staff licensure.
