Improper Use of Extension Cord as Permanent Wiring in Mechanical Room
Penalty
Summary
A deficiency was identified when, during an observation in the South Mechanical Room, a green extension cord was found being used as permanent wiring. The extension cord was plugged into a wall outlet, and its other end, which was missing the female connector, had wires spliced and directly wired into a call light box. This setup was confirmed by the Facility Maintenance Director at the time of observation. The use of the extension cord in this manner does not comply with NFPA 99 and NFPA 70 requirements, which prohibit the use of extension cords as a substitute for fixed wiring and require that extension cords be removed immediately after temporary use.
Plan Of Correction
K920 1. The Maintenance Director and/or designee will replace the extension cord in the South Mechanical Room with an NFPA approved device. 2. Results of the audits will be brought to the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement meetings for review. The Committee will be responsible for any changes to the auditing process. 4. The Administrator is responsible to attain and maintain compliance. Completion date for compliance will be 06.20.25.
