Summary
Staff failed to maintain resident dignity during assistive feeding for one resident who required help with eating. On two separate occasions, a CNA was observed standing while feeding the resident at bedside, rather than sitting at eye level as expected. When questioned, the CNA explained that she had a bad back and then sat down in a nearby chair. The unit manager confirmed that staff are supposed to sit while providing assistive feeding. The DON also stated that the standard of care is for staff to sit at eye level when feeding residents, and acknowledged there was no written policy on feeding residents.
