Failure to Employ Full-Time Social Worker
Penalty
Summary
The facility failed to employ a full-time qualified social worker, as required for facilities with more than 120 beds. This deficiency was identified through a review of clinical records for three residents, which showed that the Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) was completing social service documentation instead of a qualified social worker. During an interview, it was confirmed that the facility had been without a full-time social worker for approximately a month, and the NHA had been filling in for this role. This failure to employ a full-time social worker did not meet the residents' psychosocial needs, as required by regulations.
Plan Of Correction
1. Facility hired a FT social worker. 2. NHA will receive education from Vice President of Operations on requirement for a full time Social Worker. 3. NHA/designee will audit role x3 months to ensure facility meets requirements. 4. Results of audits will be submitted to QAPI committee for further recommendation.
